GAVI commends Ethiopia’s progress in reaching zero-dose children

Addis Ababa, April 1, 2025 (FMC) — Permanent Representative of Ethiopia to the UN and Other International Organizations in Geneva, Ambassador Tsegab Kebebew, discussed with GAVI’s leadership in Geneva, Switzerland, including Björn Gillsater (Managing Director, Global Donor Relations) and Tokunbo Oshin (Director, High Impact Countries Team), along with other senior officials.

The discussion was focused on mobilization of support for GAVI’s new strategy (GAVI 6.0) aimed at protecting 500 million children and saving at least 8 million lives from 2026–2030.

Ambassador Tsegab reaffirmed Ethiopia’s long-standing partnership with GAVI and its dedication to supporting the full replenishment of the GAVI 6.0 strategy. He emphasized that Ethiopia views this as an opportunity for sustained investment in immunization, enhancing local manufacturing and strengthening health system resilience.

GAVI’s leadership commended Ethiopia’s progress in reaching zero-dose children and the collaborative initiatives delivering high-impact results.

Ethiopian Permanent Mission in Geneva noted that the country looks forward to continued partnership with GAVI to advance health equity and strengthen global health security.
