Gov’t committed to peaceful resolutions – Peace Minister
Addis Ababa, March 10, 2025 (FMC) – Mohamed Edris, Minister of Ministry of Peace, stated that since the change in government, Ethiopia has prioritized peaceful conflict resolution, maintaining a firm stance against violence.
He outlined the government’s comprehensive peace-building and national reconciliation initiatives, focusing on addressing historical political divisions.
The minister also emphasized the government’s active efforts to dismantle outdated political practices and divisive rhetoric that have contributed to Ethiopia’s challenges.
Mohamed reiterated the government’s willingness to engage in dialogue with armed groups, noting that many have responded positively, recognizing the value of negotiation over force and subsequently contributing to peace and development.
According to the minister, the government remains dedicated to strengthening national unity and state-building through sustained dialogue, a principle upheld since the change in government.
He also called upon political elites to actively contribute ideas for fostering peace and unity, while also highlighting the crucial role of citizen participation in national development, as per ENA
Furthermore, the Ministry of Peace is actively promoting national understanding and solidarity through cross-border youth volunteer training programs, with over 70,000 young people having completed 12 rounds of training designed to cultivate unity and shared prosperity, he underscored.
