High-level Ethiopian delegation meets with IMF chief to discuss nation’s reform agenda
Addis Ababa, April 22, 2025 (FMC) – High-level Ethiopian delegation, comprising of Finance Minister Mr. Ahmed Shide and Governor of National Bank of Ethiopia Mr. Mamo Mihretu, has met with the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Kristalina Georgieva, in Washington, D.C., on the sidelines of the 2025 Spring Meetings of the World Bank Group (WBG) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
The discussion between the two dignitaries focused on the East African country’s reform agenda, Ms. Kristalina Georgieva noted on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) after her meeting with the Ethiopian officials on Monday afternoon.
During the meeting, Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva reaffirmed IMF’s strong partnership and support to the growth and development agenda in Ethiopia.
The Annual Meetings brought together central bankers, ministers of finance and development, private sector executives, civil society, media, and academics to discuss issues of global concern, including the world economic outlook, global financial stability, poverty eradication, inclusive economic growth and job creation, climate change, and others.
Taking place in the US capital from Monday, April 21 to Saturday, April 26, under the theme “Jobs – The Path to Prosperity”, the Annual Meetings include the meetings of the Boards of Governors, the joint World Bank Group/IMF Development Committee, and the IMF International Monetary and Financial Committee (IMFC). The Development Committee and the IMFC advise the Boards of Governors on issues of global concern, including the world economic outlook, poverty eradication, economic development, and aid effectiveness.
Concerns over trade battles, looming inflation, high global debt levels and the impact of artificial intelligence on the world economy are also front and center for policy makers in their meetings.
The IMF and World Bank Spring Meetings coincide with the G20 Finance meetings, led this year by South Africa.
