High-level Moroccan army delegation visits Ethiopia’s AI institute and cybersecurity agency

Addis Ababa, April 25, 2025 (FMC) – A high-level delegation from the Royal Moroccan Armed Forces, led by Lieutenant General Mohamed Bered, Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Moroccan Army, visited two key Ethiopian institutions today: the Ethiopian Artificial Intelligence Institute (EAII) and the Information Network Security Agency (INSA).

The first part of the visit took place at the EAII, where the Moroccan delegation was warmly welcomed by Taye Girma, Deputy Director General of the institute. Mr. Taye provided a comprehensive briefing on the institute’s AI-centered initiatives, highlighting its contributions to Ethiopia’s national development.

The delegation expressed admiration for the institute’s work in integrating artificial intelligence across various sectors and showed keen interest in fostering further collaboration between Morocco and Ethiopia in the field of AI.

Later, the delegation visited INSA, Ethiopia’s national signals intelligence and cybersecurity agency. Here, the delegation met with INSA officials, including Director General Tegist Hamid, who outlined the agency’s efforts in ensuring the nation’s cybersecurity. Discussions focused on areas of potential cooperation between the two countries to enhance cybersecurity capabilities.

The Moroccan delegation praised Ethiopia’s development of a modern, competent institution capable of protecting its cyber sovereignty and offered insights into strengthening bilateral efforts in this vital field.

Both visits underscored the strong diplomatic ties between Ethiopia and Morocco, with an emphasis on expanding cooperation in advanced technology sectors like AI and cybersecurity.

The Moroccan delegation’s engagement with both institutions highlights the shared interest in leveraging technological innovation to further national security and development goals. These meetings are viewed as a promising step toward strengthening bilateral relations, setting the stage for future collaboration in cybersecurity, AI, and beyond.

In related story, the Moroccan delegation has also met and held discussions with the Chief of General Staff of Ethiopian National Defense Forces (ENDF) Field Martial Berhanu Jula.
