IGAD commends strengthened Ethiopia-Somalia relations
Addis Ababa, February 2025 (FMC) – The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) has welcomed the deepening diplomatic ties between the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and the Federal Republic of Somalia, highlighted by the recent visit of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed to Mogadishu.
Recall that Prime Minister Abiy paid a one-day working visit to Mogadishu, Somalia, on 27th February 2025.
Upon his arrival in Mogadishu, the Ethiopian PM was received by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud. Subsequently, both leaders held bilateral discussions, reaffirming their nations’ commitment to constructive dialogue, regional cooperation, and lasting peace.
This high-level engagement, following the signing of the Ankara Declaration in Türkiye, marks a crucial step toward enhancing infrastructural connectivity, economic collaboration, and stability in the Horn of Africa, IGAD said in a statement issued on social media platform X (formerly Twitter).
The regional bloc said it remains committed to supporting initiatives that foster peaceful engagement and sustainable development in the region.
