IMF chief Kristalina Georgieva arrives in Addis Ababa

Addis Ababa, February 8, 2025 (FMC) – Managing Director of the Inernational Monetary Fund (IMF) Kristalina Georgieva has arrived in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, for a two-day working visit.

This is Kristalina Georgieva’s first-ever visit to Ethiopia as IMF Managing Director.

Upon her arrival in Addis Ababa, Kristalina Georgieva was received by Ethiopia’s Minister of Finance Mr. Ahmed Shide, Governor of National Bank of Ethiopia Mr.Mamo Mihretu, and Minister of Planning and Development Ms. Fitsum Aseffa.

During her stay in Addis Ababa, the IMF chief is expected to meet with Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and senior government officials to discuss Ethiopia’s economic outlook, policy priorities, and ongoing reforms. The visit will also include interactions with representatives from the private sector, to exchange perspectives on the business environment and economic opportunities in Ethiopia. In addition to these engagements, the Managing Director will visit social and development sites.
