IMF Chief says Ethiopia’s macroeconomic reform will transform country
Addis Ababa, February 9, 2025 (FMC) – The Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Kristalina Georgieva underscored that Ethiopia’s macroeconomic reforms will lead to transformation in the country.
The IMF chief remarked this in her press conference she gave to the media in Addis Ababa following her two day visit to Ethiopia.
“The society should be united behind the government’s economic reform,” Georgieva underscored expressing her belief that Ethiopia’s macroeconomic reform will transform the country.
She emphasized the importance of unity in supporting the government’s economic initiatives.
The Managing Director assured IMF’s continuous support for the success of Ethiopia’s economic reform. Georgieva’s previous visit to Ethiopia was in 2018.
During her latest visit, she toured various social and development sites, including The Adwa Memorial Museum.
She remarked, “You (Ethiopians) make Africa proud,” and expressed her amazement at the transformation of Addis Ababa.
As part of her visit, the IMF managing director also met Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and other high-ranking government officials.
Prime Minister Abiy commended the IMF for its continued technical and financial support for the country’s economic reform program and appreciated immensely Georgieva for her personal involvement and contributions.
Ethiopia’s macroeconomic reform program, which is supported by one of the IMF’s largest financing programs, is based on a Home-Grown Vision and Reform Agenda that clearly articulates our growth and development aspirations.
