Indian firm signs MOU for $10 million digital lab training center in Ethiopia
Addis Ababa, February 22, 2025 (FMC) – Empower School of Health, an India-based organization, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Ethiopian Pharmaceuticals Supply Service (EPSS) and the Ethiopian Food and Drug Authority (EFDA) to establish a $10 million digital laboratory training center aimed at strengthening the country’s pharmaceutical sector.
Professor Paul Lalvani, Founder and CEO of Empower School of Health, is paying a visit to Ethiopia for preliminary investment discussions.
During his visit, he engaged with key stakeholders, including officials from the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ethiopian Investment Commission, EPSS, and EFDA.
The proposed center will serve as a state-of-the-art training hub for pharmaceutical manufacturing. Additionally, officials highlighted the facility’s potential to be fully converted into a vaccine production site in the event of a public health emergency, such as a pandemic.
This initiative aligns with Ethiopia’s broader strategy to enhance its pharmaceutical sector and develop local capacity for medical manufacturing. Further discussions and feasibility studies are expected to follow before the project’s implementation.
