Israel seeks stronger economic, people ties with Ethiopia: Ambassador

Addis Ababa, April 2, 2025 (FMC) — Israel is committed to strengthening economic and social ties with Ethiopia, Ambassador Abraham Negussie said.

The Israeli Ambassador to Ethiopia, Abraham Negussie, emphasized that the current relationship between Israel and Ethiopia is grounded in practicality and modernization, with both countries actively working to strengthen their bonds.

The ambassador noted Israel’s remarkable economic transformation over the past 70 years, stating the country’s transition from arid landscapes to fertile fields, a strong economy, and a unified society some among others. He expressed Israel’s desire to share these valuable experiences with Ethiopia.

He emphasized that the Israel-Ethiopia partnership is built on mutual interests, benefiting both nations and their people, and is especially important given the region’s volatility.

Pointing out Israel’s keen interest in collaborating with Ethiopia in sectors such as agriculture, health, mining, and innovative technologies, he observed that many Israelis are already working in these vital areas to support Ethiopia’s development.

“This is why so many non-governmental organizations are coming to Ethiopia to assist in agriculture, health, mining, and technology,” the ambassador told ENA.

Ambassador Abraham further stressed that this bilateral cooperation, rooted in shared interests, has the potential to introduce modern agricultural practices, health innovations, and digital ecosystems in Ethiopia.

These efforts could drive economic reform, positioning Ethiopia as a leading nation in Africa while also benefiting Israel from the progress, according to the Ambassador.

The ambassador also emphasized the significance of economic agreements, particularly in sectors like renewable energy, water management, and irrigation systems, noting Israel’s eagerness to implement its advanced irrigation techniques in Ethiopia.

He mentioned that he has observed modern agricultural practices across the nation including Amhara, Tigray, and Oromia.

While acknowledging the progress made, the Ambassador also recognized the need for continued improvement and strengthening the systems.
