MoTRI minister outlines strategies to deepen Ethiopia-China trade ties

Addis Ababa, February 24, 2025 (FMC) – Ethiopia’s Minister of Trade and Regional Integration Kassahun Gofe (PhD) has recommended strategies to further strengthen the existing trade relations between his country and China.

Promoting trade and business engagement between the two nations was the agenda for discussion during a meeting between Mr. Kassahun and a Chinese delegation led by Mr. Chen Jian’an, Vice President of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), at the former’s office in Addis Ababa this morning.

The Minister noted in a social media post that they discussed the trade relations and promotion between the two countries.

During the course of the meeting Mr. Kassahun confirmed that he recommended strategies to strengthen this relationship, highlighting Ethiopia’s ongoing reforms and the implementation of policies aimed at boosting trade and investments.

In response, the Chinese delegation expressed admiration for the successes they observed during their visit to various locations in Ethiopia.

Furthermore, they invited the minister to the 3rd China International Supply Chain Expo (CISCE), which is scheduled to be held in Beijing from July 16 to 20, 2025.

Meanwhile, Mr. Kassahun appealed for CCPIT’s cooperation in connecting the Ethiopian business community with the Chinese market.
