National Conference of Religious Institutions on peace underway in Dire Dawa
Addis Ababa, December 20, 2024 (FMC) – The inaugural National Conference of Religious Institutions, concentrating on peace and unity, is currently taking place in Dire Dawa city.
Fr. Tagay Tadelle, the Secretary General of the Inter-Religious Council of Ethiopia, underscored the importance of coexisting harmoniously while honoring individual differences, calling it a true reflection of character. He emphasized that the way the nation is addressing ongoing challenges serves as a valuable lesson in peacebuilding.
Fr. Tadelle noted that differences are a natural part of life and that it is unethical to compel individuals to adopt similar viewpoints. Instead, he advocates for the respect of diverse beliefs as a hallmark of genuine character.
Religious leaders from various faiths, along with other stakeholders, are actively participating in the conference, which is themed “Religions for Peace, Unity, Coexistence and Nation Building”. The event aims to generate insights on mitigating the recent disturbances to peace observed in sine parts of the country.
The crucial role of religious leaders in fostering a peaceful society for future generations was also highlighted during the discussions.
