Plastic formwork plant built at a cost of 1 billion birr inaugurated

Addis Ababa, February 8, 2025 (FMC) – Ethiopia’s Minister of Industry Mr. Melaku Alebel today inaugurated and commissioned a plastic formwork construction material manufacturing plant built at a cost of more than 1 billion birr.

The factory is said to have the potential to save more than 15 million US dollars in foreign currency annually through import substitution products.

In his remarks at the inaugural event, Mr. Melaku Alebel said that effective work is being done to improve the policy and legal frameworks with special attention to the manufacturing industry.

He indicated that efforts are being made to create a stable economy by increasing production and productivity through provision of comprehensive support and supervision to the sector.

The Minister pointed out that building a strong and competitive industry that supplies products to the foreign market can be achieved by supporting industries engaged in production of import substitution products.

The factory inaugurated today will play a significant role in expanding import substitution production and achieving national policy, he also noted.

Melaku further pointed out that the factory’s ability to replace wooden formworks with plastic in the country will make a significant contribution to supporting Ethiopia’s Green Legacy program.

The commissioning of the plant will help prevent deforestation and increase the competitiveness of the construction sector.
