PM Abiy Ahmed extends Easter greetings to Ethiopian Christians

Addis Ababa, April 19, 2025 (FMC) – Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) has extended heartfelt Easter greetings to Ethiopian Christians, commemorating the Resurrection of Jesus Christ and calling on all who love Ethiopia to embrace sacrifice, humility, and steadfastness for the nation’s renewal.

In his Easter message issued this morning, the Prime Minister underscored the profound spiritual significance of Easter as a celebration of selfless sacrifice, redemptive suffering, and triumphant hope.

“The world sinned, yet it was Christ who paid the price,” he reflected. “Though man was the debtor, it was Christ who bore the burden. He who owed nothing became the ransom for all.”

Premier Abiy emphasized that the death of Christ was not only for the salvation of mankind, but also a lesson in self-giving love. “The Word was not spoken alone—it was lived,” he said. “Christ showed His love through action. He became a peacemaker, a reconciler, and the ultimate sacrifice.”

Drawing a parallel to Ethiopia’s current path, the Prime Minister called on citizens to follow Christ’s example by making personal sacrifices for the greater good. “A nation cannot be saved by sacrificing others,” he noted, “but by offering one’s own time, energy, wisdom—even dignity and ego. True salvation comes from self-crucifixion in humility, reconciliation, and dialogue.”

Referencing the journey from Lithostrotos to Golgotha, he asserted that those who work for peace and unity must be prepared to endure scorn, betrayal, and hardship. “To carry Ethiopia’s cross like Jesus did from Lithostrotos to Calvary is to walk a road of suffering—but also of promise,” he stated. “The resurrection of Ethiopia awaits those who persevere.”

The Prime Minister described resurrection not as a moment of ease, but as a victory born through trials. “Before the glory of Easter, there was the agony of Good Friday—the judgment, the scourging, the betrayal, the eclipse of light,” he said. “Yet Christ endured it all, silent as a lamb before His shearers. Likewise, a country requires people who will stand firm when stars fall and trusted companions flee.”

He encouraged Ethiopians not to lose hope even in the darkest hour. “When the tomb was sealed, when the sun had set and the earth trembled, it seemed that all was lost. But the Lord overturned every despair. Hope emerged from the grave. Light broke forth from darkness.”

According to PM Abiy, Ethiopia, too, stands at the threshold of resurrection. “Many are laboring for Ethiopia’s renewal. The time of silence is passing. Those who left will return, those who strayed will understand, and those who falsely judged will be humbled. Like the stone rolled away from Christ’s tomb, the obstacles before Ethiopia will be removed.”

Concluding his message, the Prime Minister expressed unwavering optimism. “As resurrection once radiated from Israel to the world, so too shall Ethiopia’s light shine forth. The dawn is near. Ethiopia will rise in her destined resurrection.”
