PM Abiy appoints Mr. Getachew Reda as his Advisor for East African Affairs
Addis Ababa, April 11, 2025 (FMC) – Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) has appointed Mr. Getachew Reda as his Advisor for East African Affairs, with the title of Minister, the Office of the Prime Minister announced today.
According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, Mr. Getachew’s appointment as the PM Advisor on regional affairs is effective from today, April 11, 2025.
Recall that Mr. Getachew has been serving as the Chief Administrator of the Tigray Region Interim Administration for the past two years, following the signing of the Pretoria Peace Agreement.
Upon completing his tenure, he was succeeded this week by his Deputy, Lt. General Taddese Worede. A handover ceremony for the presidency of the Tigray Region Interim Administration took place on April 8, 2025, at the Office of the Prime Minister. The event was attended by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Truneh, ministers, parliament speaker, African Union Commission Chairperson Mr. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, Executive Secretary of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) Mr. Workneh Gebeyehu, heads of diplomatic missions of various countries and international organizations based in Addis Ababa, and other high-level officials.
It is noteworthy that the new interim regional administration led by Lt. General Taddese has officially commenced its work on April 10, 2025, as confirmed by the administration’s office.
