Prime Minister Abiy tours large-scale smart city project in Hanoi
Addis Ababa, April 16, 2025 (FMC) – Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed visited the large-scale smart city project in Hanoi, as part of efforts to draw insights for Ethiopia’s own urban development initiatives.
The visit, according to the Office of the Prime Minister of Ethiopia, reflects a growing interest in leveraging global best practices to inform and inspire smart city projects currently underway or envisioned across Ethiopia.
Recall that Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, alongside his high-level delegation, traveled to Hanoi on 14th April 2025 for an official working visit at the invitation of his Vietnamese counterpart Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.
Since his arrival in Hanoi on Monday afternoon, PM Abiy Ahmed held meetings with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Viet Nam at the Party Central Committee Office, To Lam, General Lương Cường, President of Vietnam, and Trần Thanh Mẫn, President of the National Assembly.
He is also participating at the 4th Partnership for Green Growth and the Global Goals 2030 (P4G) Summit in the Vietnamese capital Hanoi.
His visit to the Southeast Asian country is the first visit to Việt Nam by a senior Ethiopian leader since the two countries established diplomatic relations in 1976, and also the first high-level delegation exchange between the two countries in seven years.
