Progress of Ethiopia’s food systems transformation and nutrition reviewed
Addis Ababa, April 2, 2025 (FMC) — The Ethiopian Food Systems Transformation and Nutrition Inter-Ministerial Steering Committee has reviewed the progress of the country’s food systems transformation and nutrition, Sekota Declaration, and the community-based health insurance today.
The main objective of today’s meeting is reviewing the progress of programs and setting direction alongside discussing ways to showcase Ethiopia’s best practices at the upcoming 2nd UN Food Systems Summit set to be held in Addis Ababa in July, 2025.
Addressing the inter-ministerial steering committee meeting, Agriculture Minister Girma Amente said Ethiopia started implementing its Food Systems road map four years ago.
Based on the assessment made, the country is carrying out its duty in collaboration with development partners by aligning the road map with the direction set by the UN food systems, he added.
“Yelimat Tirufat” (the Bounty of Basket) initiative, the Green Legacy initiative, and the school feeding programs are supportive of the road map.
On her part, Health Minister Dr. Mekdes Daba said various endeavors have been carried out during the past two years, particularly by pertinent stakeholders.
The minister stressed the need to further reinforce activities that realize the stated programs in which the country has made encouraging strides.
Ethiopia has been taking decisive steps to transform its food systems since the 2021 UN Food Systems Summit, it was learned.
