Russia pledges to back reconstruction work at Dejazmach Balcha hospital in Addis Ababa
Addis Ababa, February 9, 2025 (FMC) – Following a meeting between Russian Health Minister Mikhail Murashko and Ethiopian Ambassador Genet Teshome Jirru, Russia and Ethiopia agreed to increase healthcare cooperation, including medical education and consultations for Ethiopian patients with Russian specialists. They also discussed further professional training for doctors.
According to Sputnik Africa, Murashko added that more than 80 Ethiopian specialists had been trained in Russia on issues of assistance in the field of motherhood and childhood. According to him, the Russian side is ready to provide support in training Ethiopian specialists in narrow medical fields.
The Russian Red Cross Hospital named after Dejazmatch Balcha in Addis Ababa is the first Russian multidisciplinary medical institution in Africa and a symbol of friendship between the peoples of Russia and Ethiopia. According to the Russian Ministry of Health, the institution receives more than 60 thousand patients every year.
