Trilateral MOU signed to boost stopover tourism in Ethiopia
Addis Ababa, March 4, 2025 (FMC) – The Ministry of Tourism (MOT), Ethiopian Airlines Group, and Immigration and Citizenship Services (ICS) today signed a trilateral Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to enhance cooperation and unlock the potential of stopover tourism.
Minister of Tourism Ms. Selamawit Kassa, Ethiopian Airlines Group CEO Mr. Mesfin Tassew, and Immigration and Citizenship Services Director-General, Ms. Selamawit Dawit, signed the MOU.
Speaking at the ceremony, Ms. Selamawit Kassa emphasized that streamlined cooperation among the parties will help position Ethiopia as a preferred stopover tourism destination by leveraging service excellence and joint promotions.
She noted that Addis Ababa has become Africa’s largest air transit hub, thanks to Ethiopian Airlines’ ever-expanding global service.
The liberalization of Ethiopia’s visa policy, including the rollout of e-visa and visa on arrival service, further contribute to creating an attractive environment for stopover tourists.
Newly developed tourist sites in Addis also enhance the city’s appeal as a stopover destination.
