UN chief António Guterres arrives in Addis Ababa for 38th AU Summit

Addis Ababa, February 13, 2025 (FMC) – Secretary-General of the United Nations António Guterres has arrived in Addis Ababa this morning to participate in the 38th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union., the Ethiopian foreign ministry confirmed.

Upon his arrival at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport, the UN Chief was welcomed by Ethiopia’s Deputy Prime Minister Mr. Temesgen Truneh.

After receiving the UN Secretary-General, Deputy PM Mr. Temesgen noted in a social media post, ”UN Secretary-General António Guterres, welcome to Ethiopia, the land of origin, and to Africa’s vibrant capital, Addis Ababa.”

“On behalf of the Federal Government of Ethiopia, I extend my deepest appreciation for your presence at the 38th African Union Summit, hosted here in Ethiopia. Your participation underscores the importance of global collaboration in advancing Africa’s priorities,” Temesgen added.
