UNIDO chief tips Ethiopia to become engine of regional industry dev’t

Addis Ababa, February 16, 2025 (FMC) — State Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Mesganu Arga Moach, held a sideline meeting with the Deputy to the Director General and the Managing Director of the Directorate of Global Partnerships and External Relations of the UNIDO – United Nations Industrial Development Organization, Fatou Haidara, on the margins 38th AU Summit.

On the occasion, the State Minister briefed Haidara on national industrial development projects including special economic zones, industrial parks and agro and food processing facilities that need the continued support of UNIDO. He said, the government attaches special attention to the industry sector as it plays a significant role in the economy.

The two sides discussed ways of strengthening the longstanding cooperation between Ethiopia and UNIDO in the provision of technical assistance, capacity building, experience sharing and technology development in Ethiopia’s industrialisation initiatives.

Haidara, on her part, expressed her appreciation to the Government of Ethiopia for successfully hosting the World Without Hunger Conference. Commending Ethiopia’s efforts in the development of value chains in the key economic sector, she assured the State Minister of UNIDO’s continued support to Ethiopia’s national priorities. Ethiopia can be an engine of development in the region in industry sector development, she noted.
