Mr. Temesgen Tiruneh Appointed as Ethiopia’s Deputy Prime Minister as He Begins Second Term in Office

Addis Ababa, October 8, 2026 (FMC) — Mr. Temesgen Tiruneh has been appointed as Deputy Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia for a second term, as he begins another five-year tenure in the country’s federal executive.

Mr. Temesgen took the constitutional oath of office following his appointment, formally assuming his responsibilities for the new governmental term.

He previously served as Deputy Prime Minister during the preceding five-year term and now returns to the same office as Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed begins his new mandate.

His reappointment comes as Ethiopia completes the formation of its new ministerial Cabinet following the opening of the 7th parliamentary term on October 5 and Parliament’s approval of the ministerial nominees.

The new executive leadership takes office following the June 1, 2026 general election and Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s re-election and swearing-in for another five-year term.

Mr. Temesgen’s appointment and oath-taking mark the commencement of his second term as Ethiopia’s Deputy Prime Minister under the new Medemer Government.
